How to Automate Box Selection for Shopify Orders

The Shopify order screen shows line items; it does not show physical package count or which products go in which carton. Automatic box selection fills that gap with a cartonization plan.
The problem: package count stays hidden
Three products on one line may still require two boxes. Package count often appears only at the label printer; repacking and split shipments follow.
Bundles, oversize SKUs, and mixed weight profiles especially break line-item packing assumptions.
The WiCartonize approach
The Shopify integration generates a pack plan on the order. The embedded inspector shows fill rate, package breakdown, and placement. Operations decides before labels.
When the plan needs multiple boxes, package-level fulfillment processes each physical package separately.
Setup steps
Typical go-live sequence:
- Install the Shopify app and map catalog fields
- Define the box library with inner dimensions
- Attach packing profiles and rules
- Validate plans on pilot orders
- Update fulfillment flow for package count
Operational impact
Customer support gets a clear answer to “how many packages ship?” The warehouse plans pick paths per package.

Doesn’t Shopify provide packing suggestions?
Line-item views do not replace physical 3D planning and managed box libraries—that requires cartonization software.
Is fulfillment in Shopify or WiCartonize?
WiCartonize produces the plan; fulfillment steps are configured to match your process.
